Shippers’ Council Unveils Registration Portal to Check Illegal Port Operators
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has launched an online portal for the registration of port service providers and users in order to tackle the activities of illegal operators in the country’s port environment.
The agency highlighted that the automated registration portal will guarantee a safe, secure and also get rid of the challenges of faceless stakeholders in the port business environment.
Executive Secretary of NSC, Emmanuel Jime declared that the new platform is complete departures from its manual registration of port service providers to a fully automated platform, noting that it will enable Shippers’ Council have an accurate data of all port users and stakeholders in the country.
Jime informed stakeholders at the launch in Lagos recently that “The platform we are launching is interactive in nature as a physical interface is eliminated. From your desk in your office, you can register your company online without having to visit any Shippers’ Council office as long as you fulfill the requirements and make the necessary payments.”
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council Port Economic Regulation 2015 Act Part 11 section 4(1) mandates the Council to register all Regulated Service Providers and Ushers operating at the Nigerian ports.
Ports service providers include government agencies, cargo consolidators/ de-consolidators, barge operators, chandlers, freight forwarders, clearing agents, handlers/truckers as well as logistics service provider, stevedoring and terminal operators.
Others include, off-dock terminal operators, ICD operators, shipping agencies, shipping companies, importers and exporters among others.
