Works Ministry to Import Equipment Worth 1.2m Euros to Repair EKO Bridge
The Federal Government has made plans to import equipment worth 1.2 million Euros to repair the Eko Bridge in Lagos state.
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi disclosed this while speaking to journalists when he inspected the Third Mainland, Carter, Falomo, Iddo, Eko, Marina and Iganmu Bridges in Lagos State.
Umahi hinted that the equipment is needed due to the technicality of the job on Eko Bridge where the Bridge deck would be open.
He pointed out that the Bridge had two major problems and commended the last administration for the maintenance work done.
Umahi said “Eko Bridge suffered two problems such as lack of maintenance, and the bearings eating up, lots of the pair gaps have serious issues but the last administration did a very good and wonderful work.
“Work is on-going, it will finish in 2024 because we are pushing for increase in the number of workers and equipment to site, they are doing a beautiful work. Without Eko Bridge, we will not have any truck coming into Island so that is our saviour.”
In the same vein, the Minister stated that the Third Mainland Bridge, which was built 62 years ago had a problem of maintenance which he said is causing deflection on the bridge.
Accordingly, he appreciated the President and National Assembly for taking Infrastructure development seriously in Lagos State.
