Akwa Ibom Set For International Flight Operations As Victor Attah Airport Begins Accra Route

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has confirmed that Victor Attah International Airport is ready to begin international flight operations, with its maiden international flight scheduled for Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana.

Governor Eno disclosed this after inspecting facilities at the airport, saying the development marks a major milestone in the state’s aviation expansion agenda. He expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness and praised the pace of work carried out by the contractor, Messrs VKS.

The governor said the airport’s new status follows recent upgrades in infrastructure, safety systems, passenger handling facilities, and regulatory readiness. He noted that security, customs, and immigration services are already in place ahead of the inaugural flight.

According to him, the commencement of international operations will support tourism, improve connectivity, deepen trade links, and position Akwa Ibom as an emerging regional aviation and commercial hub.

Governor Eno also commended the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, the committee set up to drive the process, and other stakeholders who contributed to the achievement.

The maiden Accra flight is expected to strengthen economic and diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Ghana while opening new opportunities for business, travel, and investment in Akwa Ibom State.
