Court jailed Clearing agent, Ogunna 10 years for Importing Tramadol

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has convicted and sentenced a clearing agent, Cyril Ogunna, to 10 years imprisonment for unlawful importation of 657.5 kilogrammes of tramadol.

The presiding Judge,  Justice Daniel Osiagor handed down the jail term on Friday after the convict pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy and unlawful importation of tramadol preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

NDLEA prosecutor, Lily Wifa-Aranyeli, informed the court that Ogunna was arrested with the drug on December 1, 2021, at ESS Libra Bonded Terminal, Ikorodu, Lagos. She said the tramadol was illegally imported into the country from India.

The prosecutor urged the court to sentence him following his guilty plea, but his counsel, G. O. Okaka, urged the court to temper justice with mercy.

Justice Osiagor sentenced the convict to 10 years imprisonment or pay a fine of N500, 000. He also ordered seizure and destruction of the tramadol.
