Ekiti Welcomes First Aircraft at New Agro-Cargo International Airport

Ado-Ekiti Community were excited as the new Agro-Cargo International Airport received its first aircraft, NAF 930 on Saturday.

Aviation Minister, Haidi Sirika officially inaugurated the Ekiti Airport on Saturday.

The Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his wife, the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, the Deputy Governor-Elect, Monisade Afuye, Minister for Trade, Industry and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo as well as other state dignitaries were on the ground to welcome the aircraft, flown by flight lieutenant Balogun, which landed around 10.20 am with the Federal Government delegation on board.

The airport has a 3.2 kilometers runway and the terminal building. It occupies a 5,000-hectare of land along the Ado-Ijan road in the state capital, not far from Afe Babalola University and Federal Polytechnic in the city.

Though it is projected to be an Agro-Based Cargo airport, this does not exclude commercial passenger operations. The Airport boast a CAT-9 4E category with capacity for wide bodied Aircraft like Boeing 747-400.

Ekiti Agro-Cargo Airport, therefore will complement the Murtala Mohammed International airport in Lagos in service, most especially the agro-dominated South Western region of Nigeria.
