Lagos Appoints Akinsanya ‘MC Oluomo’ as Chairman Parks Management Committee

Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, a.k.a MC Oluomo

The Lagos State Government has appointed the ex-Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Musiliu Akinsanya also known as MC Oluono as the Chairman of its 25-man Parks Management Committee.

The government also appointed a former Assistant Inspector General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu as the liaison officer for the committee.

The members’ appointment was confirmed in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Thursday.

Omotoso said that the committee would oversee the affairs of all motor parks and garages across the state to ensure coordination and maintain peace and harmonious relationship.

He said: “This is in fulfillment of the Government’s promise to ensure that events in the NURTW are not allowed to threaten law and order in the state.

“The Government has, therefore, exercised its constitutional powers to ensure that no vacuum, which can disrupt the peace of our dear state, is allowed to exist in the parks. This is a duty we owe all Lagosians and visitors”, the commissioner added.

Omotoso hinted that all members of the committee would be inaugurated at the Ministry of Transportation, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

It would be recalled that the state government had on March 10 suspended NURTW operations in all parks and garages, following the tension sparked by some events in the union.

While MC Oluomo would serve as the chairman of the committee, Odumosu would serve as the Liaison Officer between the government and the committee.

An ex-Permanent Secretary, Dr. Taiwo Salaam, who would act as the secretary of the committee Secretary, Sulyman Ojora was appointed by the State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the Deputy Chairman of the management committee.

Other members of the committee were: Olayiwola Lemboye, Mustapha Adekunle popularly called Tafa Sego, a former member of the NURTW, Ganiyu Shittu, Mukaila Runsewe, Sulyman Yusuf,  Mufutau Mutiu, Yinka Hassan,  Sunday Ogunleye, Moshood Omojowa, Ismaila Aigoro, Ibrahim Yusuf, Akeem Tijani and a woman, Omolabake Adelakun.

Also appointed by the governor were Kazeem Hassan, Wasiu Amole,  Ganiyu Ayinde, Anthony Adeboye,  John Owolabi, Saburi Salami, Ibrahim Onitiju, and Odusanya Gbenga.

Recall, Gentechnews reported on March, 10, 2022 that NURTW suspended the chairman of its Lagos State chapter, Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, a.k.a MC Oluomo, indefinitely.

. The suspension letter was signed by NURTW’s General Secretary, Kabiru Yau, and dated March 9, 2022.

In the letter, the MC Oluomo was suspended over alleged misconduct, insubordination, and inciting members of the state chapter against the national body of the Union.

Accordingly, the NURTW directed Akinsanya to hand over to his deputy chairman and release all property belonging to the union in his possession.

The letter reads, “This is to convey to you that in line with Article 42 section 5, subsection I, II, III, IV, V, and VIII of the union’s constitution, you have been placed on indefinite suspension from office as State Chairman of Lagos State Council of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) with effect from March 9th, 2021.

“Your suspension is sequel to sustained acts of insubordination and gross misconduct coupled with your clandestine plans to instigate crisis and unleash mayhem on any branch or branches of the union in Lagos state that refuses to obey your order or instructions not to accept directives from the national headquarters of the Union.

“Your orchestrated plan to attack branches that may disobey your orders aforesaid will ultimately endanger public peace and order in Lagos state. It is also very likely to threaten and/or affect the lives and property of the peace-loving people of Lagos state, particularly those doing their legitimate businesses within motor parks, hence the urgent need to take drastic actions against him.

“It is on record that you were earlier issued with queries on 25th of February 2022 and 3rd of March, 2022 respectively in which you were directed to explain the circumstances surrounding your untoward actions and to also show cause why disciplinary actions should not be taken against you for such acts of insubordination. You bluntly neglected/refuse to respond to the second query, while your response to the first query was unsatisfactory.

“In view of your suspension, you are hereby directed to hand over the mantle of leadership of the Lagos State Council to the State Deputy Chairman and also surrender all Union properties in your possession to the State Secretary of the Union forthwith.”

Meanwhile, MC Oluomo pulled the Lagos branch of the union out of the NURTW with immediate effect, creating serious confusion and tension among members of the union in the state.

The State Government thereafter banned all the NURTW activities in the State and promised to set up a park management committee.

There is palpable fear as Lagosians have been taken aback with the appointment of the Park Management Committee headed by MC Oluomo because the activities of the ouster NURTW went on uninhibited from government and security agents after the ban was declared in the State.
