Petrol subsidy: Nigeria Labour Congress to Embark on Nationwide Strike Wednesday

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared a nationwide strike starting next week Wednesday with regards to petrol subsidy removal in the country.

Joe Ajaero said this after an emergency meeting of the union’s National Executive Council, (NEC) in Abuja.

The NEC, which consists of Presidents, General Secretaries, Treasurers of all affiliate unions under the NLC, State Chairpersons and Secretaries of the NLC State Councils, the Chairperson of the NLC Youth Committee, and members of the National Administrative Council (NAC), deliberated on the fuel subsidy removal and the resulting fuel shortages plaguing the country.

Ajaero said the government and NNPC have till Wednesday next week to revert the former price of petrol, failure of that would lead to indefinite protest by the union.

The fuel scarcity was triggered by President Bola Tinubu’s inaugural speech, wherein he boldly declared the end of fuel subsidy.
