Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway: Goronyo Commends Tinubu’s Infrastructure Revolution, Flags Off Strategic Tree-Planting Programme

The Honourable Minister of State for Works, Rt. Hon. Bello Muhammad Goronyo, Esq., has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his visionary leadership and commitment to delivering transformative infrastructure projects, as he inspected ongoing construction works and flagged off a strategic roadside tree-planting programme along the Illela–Sokoto axis of the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway on 30th May 2026.

A statement signed by Abdullahi Mohammed, SA Media to the Honourable Minister of State for Works, noted that speaking during the inspection and flag-off ceremony on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Works, H.E. Engr. David Umahi CON, Goronyo described the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway as a landmark national project that will drive economic growth, strengthen national unity, enhance connectivity, and create new opportunities for communities across Nigeria.

The Minister disclosed that approximately 120 kilometres of the highway are currently under construction along the Sokoto axis, with significant progress of 20km has already been recorded  with dollar lights installed on the continuously reinforced concrete pavement designed to ensure durability and lower maintenance costs.

He noted that the 1,068-kilometre highway, which will connect with the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, represents a strategic transportation corridor capable of transforming trade, mobility, security, and regional integration across the country.

Goronyo also emphasized that the roadside tree-planting initiative forms a critical component of the Federal Government’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.

According to him, the trees will serve as shelterbelts and windbreakers, help combat desert encroachment and soil erosion, improve environmental sustainability, support climate change mitigation efforts, and contribute to the long-term protection of the highway infrastructure.

“The Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is more than a road project; it is a road to prosperity. It reflects President Tinubu’s vision of building a more connected, productive, environmentally sustainable, and economically resilient Nigeria,” he stated.

The Minister commended the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, CON, the engineers of the Federal Ministry of Works, and Hitech Construction Company for their dedication and professionalism in delivering world-class infrastructure.

He further urged Nigerians to continue supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda, especially the people of the North West region, stressing that the ongoing infrastructure revolution under President Tinubu is laying the foundation for lasting economic growth, national development, and prosperity for future generations.
